How can i become a member?
To be able to join, you will need to have taken or be currently enrolled in one Music Class. This class can be anything ranging from Music Appreciation to an ensemble. You also need to have a GPA above 2.5 and you must have completed at least one semester at the University of Nevada, Reno. We unfortunately cannot invite people to become members until they have completed one semester at the university.
It is also encouraged that you attend the recruitment events so you can meet the sisters and learn more about Sigma Alpha Iota.

Are you a part of greek life?
At the University of Nevada, Reno, Sigma Alpha Iota is not a part of Greek Life. Since we are not, any member of Sigma Alpha Iota is welcome to join another greek organization if they choose to do so.
Do i have to be a music major to be a sister?
Being a music major is not a requirement to be a member of Sigma Alpha Iota. The Eta Omicron chapter is composed of around half music majors and half non-music majors.
do i have to continuously take music classes to be a member?
It is not required that you continuously take music courses. We only require the one music class to be a member.

- Bold Notes, a project that increases the sizes of the notes and staves so that visually-impaired can read their music
- Pan's Cottage, an artist retreat in New Hampshire that allows artists of all types to hone their craft and work on their projects
- Music Therapy, a project to help people in rehabilitation centers and special schools learn and enjoy music

what if i cannot make meetings, but still want to participate?
If you have a conflict with the weekly meeting time, there are a few options for accommodations for you. You would need to get in contact with the Recording Secretary to discuss them. But if you would like to still be active with the chapter, you may receive the weekly minutes and attend other SAI events.
why is sigma alpha iota called a fraternity?
Sigma Alpha Iota is called a fraternity because in 1903 when the organization was founded, the term sorority was not as popular as it is today. Therefore, when SAI was created they went with the term "women's fraternity" instead of "sorority". But besides a title, there really is no difference.
what is required of members?
The Eta Omicron members are required to do a certain amount of community service hours, fundraising hours, and musicales per semester. They are also required to attend at least one committee meeting on top of the chapter meeting per week. After that, everything they do is up to them.
